This piece of functional art is forged from an aluminum section of an emergency hydraulic fluid storage tank from a Lockheed P-38 "Lightning" Fighter Aircraft. Developed for the United States Army Air Corps, this craft was known for its iconic twin booms and central fuselage containing cockpit and gunnery. The Lightning saw a wide range of WWII combat, and further uses in the Pacific and Europe. This piece, stamped with the original serial information, is an authentic aviation artifact.
