Cholla Cactus (Genus Opuntia) represents more than 20 species found in the North American deserts. Cholla is a term applied to various shrubby cacti of this genus with cylindrical stems composed of segmented joints. These stems are actually modified branches that serve several functions -- water storage, photosynthesis and flower production. Cholla Wood is the inner skeleton of a specific type of cacti plant. Once it has died and dried out, it is set with an epoxy dyed with different colors to create a truly unique and one of a kind handle material for pocket knives.

The Damascus Steel used in Santa Fe Stoneworks knives comes from Japan and is called "Sanmai Damascus" or Sandwich Damascus. A core of vg-10 steel with 16 layers of stainless steel on each side produce a rust-free Damascus look blade.
